The Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado (ALCC) honored Zach Johnson, assistant professor in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, with an Excellence in Landscape Award. ALCC recognizes Colorado’s most innovative and beautiful landscapes. Johnson won in the category “special areas” for his work at the Zahourek residence in Loveland, Colo. “The goal of this project was to create a function al yet beautiful entry way for the homeowners,” said Johnson, who also owns Green Ink Designs in Berthoud, Colo. “These winning landscapes are excellent examples of the newest landscape designs and cutting-edge trends,” said Kristen Fefes, ALCC executive director. Award categories include Xeriscape, new landscape construction, landscape renovation, water features, wall construction, landscape maintenance, irrigation system construction, special areas, and use of color with annuals and perennials. ALCC’s Excellence in Landscape Awards competition is the only program of its kind in Colorado.
