Ag Adventure Named "Outstanding Education Exhibit"

After the dust settled, the Ag Adventure program in the College of Agricultural Sciences came out on top at the 2008 National Western Stock Show. The Ag Adventure booth received the award for “Outstanding Educational Exhibit” at the Stock Show, which further propells the group into a position to take the exhibit state-wide.

Ag Adventure is a student-run program that introduces all aspects of agriculture to elementary-aged children. The program began by hosting third graders at the ARDEC facility ( Agriculture Research Development & Education Center) each year in Fort Collins and for the first time moved their exhibit to the National Western Stock Show this year. The group of students, supervised by Dr. Marshall Frasier of the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, hopes to expand the program to other functions throughout the state such as the State-Fair in Pueblo, CO.

The students who manage the Ag Adventure program teach school groups and other visitors about livestock production, crop production, animal husbandry, land stewardship and the “farm-to-plate” process through interactive displays. This program provides one of many occasions for students in the College of Agricultural Sciences to apply their education through hands-on activities, also giving them an opportunity to promote the Agriculture industry throughout Colorado.
