Horticulture researchers recognized with national awards

 

Two Horticulture faculty and a student will be recognized for the quality of their research at the annual Awards Ceremony of the American Society for Horticultural Sciences (ASHS) during its 2006 conference in New Orleans in August.

The awards and recipients are :

ASHS Outstanding Fruit Publication for 2005: This award is to Dr. Sastry Jayanty (postharvest physiologist at the San Luis Valley Research Center) for the paper “Sorbitol transporter expression in apple (Malus domestica) sink tissues : implications for fruit sugar accumulation and watercore development”.

American Pomological Society U.P. Hedrick Award for 2006: This award is to Dr. Cecil Stushnoff (Professor of Horticulture) and Saleh Mobarek (graduate student) for the ASHS paper “Total phenolics and antioxidant properties of cider apple cultivars”.
