The Scenario that will be discussed is as follows:
I am a 3rd year Assistant Professor on a 9-month appointment (75% resident instruction, 25% experiment station) who has published two refereed journal articles, since starting at Colorado State University. I have secured one research contract for about $50,000. I teach two 3-credit lecture courses each semester; one of which is a large introductory class taught each semester plus two upper division courses each taught once per year. Regarding service, I am an elected member of Faculty Council, a member of a college committee on improving teaching, and chair of the department scholarship committee. I also serve as a coach for a girl’s softball team.
The questions for discussion are:
- What do I need to accomplish over the next two years to earn your (the Department Head’s) recommendation for promotion and tenure?
- Should I being doing something different so that I can qualify for promotion and tenure?
- How can the department help me earn promotion and tenure? What resources are available?
