College of Ag Sciences

Student Technology Fee Committee

Minutes January 24, 2007

The bi-semester meeting of the Student Technology Fee Committee for the College of Ag Sciences was held on January 24, 2007 at 12:15 PM.

Members in attendance: Matt Everitt, Ed Peyronnin, Juan Gonzalez, Karen Elsner, Katie Neufeld, Katie Simpson, Rory Bogan, Tamla Blunt

Tamla Blunt moved that the student technology fees be increased by 5 % and the motion to increase fees was approved.  Student fees for Fall and Spring Semester will be $74.42.

Grad student lab needs, issues and concerns were discussed.  It was concluded that each department graduate student lab would determine their software and hardware needs and coordinate with Ed, Larry, and the accounting office as to what purchases needed to be made.  Specifically discussion of two new machines in the Soil sciences lab and the DARE lab has some software needs.

By unanimous consent it was concluded that with the 5% raise this year the extra money would be spent on software licenses rather than increasing the number of computers purchased each year.  Future raises in fees will need to have discussion as to how the money will be spent.

By unanimous consent it was concluded that the laptop cart will no longer have any purchases made to keep it up to date.  Maintenance will still be done to the laptops but if a laptop on that cart crashes it will be sent to surplus property.
